Manhattan Takes Volleyball In 5-Sets

Riverdale, N.Y. - The Loyola University Maryland women's volleyball team came back from being down 2-0 to lose to Manhattan, 3-2 (25-22, 25-19, 18-25, 23-25, 15-12), today in Riverdale, N.Y. The Greyhounds (8-14, 2-6 MAAC) will be back in action Saturday and Sunday at Reitz Arena against Niagara and Canisius. Both matches begin at 2 p.m.

Senior Nina Camaioni had a double-double with 20 kills and 26 assists. She also recorded a serving ace and two blocks. Sophomore Aubrey Kirven had a double-double with 52 assists, 14 digs and three blocks.

Freshman Nicole Sarby recorded 16 kills for a .306 hitting percentage. She also had four blocks. Sophomore Katie Dircks had nine kills and five digs and freshman Jac Bullock had 10 blocks and five kills.

As a team the Greyhounds had 14 blocks.

Leading the way for Manhattan was Diane Strutner who had 18 kills and 13 digs. Jamie Collareta had 49 assists for the match.

In the fifth set, the Jaspers took an early 7-2 lead before the Greyhounds scored a point by a serving error. Then Faye Lukas had a serving ace but Manhattan had an answer and went on a five point run.

The Greyhounds came within two points at 14-12 with a couple of kills by Nicole Sarby but that wasn't enough and the Jaspers had a kill by Jamie Collareta to end the set and the match 15-12. The Greyhounds had a .133 hitting percentage to Manhattans .241.

In the fourth set, the set was tied at 14 before Loyola took the lead with a kill by Nina Camaioni and went up by a couple of points with a kills by Jac Bullock. The Jaspers answered back and tied up the set at 22 but Loyola finished the match with a kill by Nina Camaioni and Nicole Sarby with a block by Sarby and Taylor Koncelik. Loyola had a .233 hitting percentage to Manhattans .143.

In the third set, the match was tied at 12 before Jac Bullock and Aubrey Kirven had a couple of big blocks to give Loyola the lead. Manhattan was never able to catch up and the Greyhounds finished the set 25-18 with a kill by Jac Bullock. Loyola had a .323 hitting percentage there best of the match to Manhattans -.025

In the first two sets it was all Manhattan. Loyola came within two at 12-10 in the first set but was never able to catch up. The Greyhounds came within two at 24-22 but the Jaspers finished the set with a kill by Diane Strutner. Manhattan had a .191 hitting percentage to Loyola's .061.

In the second set, the set was tied at 15 before Manhattan took the lead and went on a couple of runs. They went on a four point, two points and another four point run before closing the set, 25-19. Loyola had a .186 hitting percentage to Manhattans .381
