Loudonville, N.Y. - The Loyola University Maryland women's volleyball team defeated Siena, 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-15), today on the road in Loudonville, N.Y.
The Greyhounds (11-16, 5-7 MAAC) will be back in action Saturday and Sunday, October 30-31, against Rider and Saint Peter's. Both matches begin at 2 p.m.
Leading the way for Loyola was senior Nina Camaioni who had a double-double with 17 kills and 10 digs. Camaioni had a .308 hitting percentage for the match.
Freshman Nicole Sarby had a big match for the Greyhounds with 13 kills and a .440 hitting percentage. She also added two blocks. Sophomore Aubrey Kirven had 39 assists and sophomore Katie Dircks had eight kills and eight digs.
Senior Brittany Born contributed 17 digs and freshman Simone Reid had three kills and four blocks.
Leading the way for Siena was Taylor Akana who had 17 kills and 14 digs. Brianna Bobo contributed 28 assists for the Saints.
In the first set, Loyola scored the first two points with a kill by Nicole Sarby and a block by Katie Dircks. The score was tied at 18 before Loyola took the lead with a kill by Nina Camaioni. The Saints came within one at 20-19 but that was the closest they came before the Greyhounds finished the set 25-22 with a kill by Sarby. Loyola had a .244 hitting percentage to Siena .167.
In the second set, the Greyhounds had an early five point lead before the Saints scored. Loyola had an eight point lead and never looked back. Siena came within two at 21-19 but the Greyhounds closed the set with a kill by Katie Dircks to end the set 25-23 and Loyola took an early 2-0 lead going into intermission. The Greyhounds had a .146 hitting percentage to the Saints .152.
In the third set, Loyola had an early four point lead before Siena scored its first point. Loyola had a 15-6 lead and never looked back. The Greyhounds finished the set and the match 25-15 with a kill by Nina Camaioni. Loyola had a .385 hitting percentage the Saints .062. The Greyhounds only had four errors for the set.
