TRUMBULL, Conn. - Fairfield snapped Loyola's winning streaks Saturday afternoon at the Tennis Club of Trumbull with wins over the men and women.
The Stags swept the men and went 5-2 against the women, dropping the men to 7-3 on the season and 1-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference while the women moved to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in the MAAC.
Keyan Sanai and J. Pierce Norton fell to Dan Sauter and Joe Michalison 8-4 in No. 1 doubles and Kevin Zingler and Dan D'Agostino fell 8-2 in the No. 2 doubles match to Ryan Berthod and Rob Ferrante.
Matt McDaniel and Bobby Gorczakowski were the only Loyola players to get a win, defeating brothers Erik and Mark Kremheller 8-6 in No. 3 doubles.
Trailing 1-0 going into singles, Sanai took his match with Sauter into three sets but was overtaken in the third, falling 3-6, 6-1, 4-6 in No. 1 singles.
The Greyhounds then went down in straight sets.
In No. 2 singles, Norton fell to 6-0, 6-2 to Michalison. Zingler went down 6-2, 6-1 in No. 3 singles and McDaniel was defeated by Berthod 6-0, 6-4 in No. 4 singles.
In the Nos. 5 and 6 singles tilts Erik Kremheller defeated Gorczakowski 6-2, 6-3 and Mike Lessing defeated Jamie Russo 6-3, 6-2.
The women opened by going down 0-3 in doubles. Rachel Janasek and Kerri Swan dropped the No. 1 doubles tilt 8-5 to Paulina Rhys and Kristen Liu, Dana Postupack and Gretchen Amberg defeated Joy Johnson and Andie Keyser-Baker 8-3 in No. 2 doubles and Meghan Sullivan and Michaela Cerrone defeated Judy Lite and Scarlet Hoy 8-3 in No. 3 doubles.
Janasek led off the single portion with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Postupack. But Loyola would not get another win until the No. 6 singles match, when Hoy defeated Hannah Blau 6-1, 6-2.
Swan fell in the No. 2 singles tilt to Rhys, 6-1, 6-3. In No. 3 singles, Johnson fell 6-4, 6-3 to Liu. In Nos. 4 and 5, Keyser-Baker fell to Sullivan 6-3, 6-3 and Alyssa Ruiz overtook Lite 6-2, 6-3.
The Greyhounds will close out the weekend with another MAAC match at Saint Peter's, Sunday afternoon in Jersey City, N.J.
