The 'Hounds endured a lengthy rain delay but still managed to come out of the gate strong with an 11th-place finish Thursday afternoon in the first round of the 2010 NCAA West Regional at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash.

No. 13-seeded Loyola combined for a 20-over first-round score of 308. SMU is one stroke ahead and New Mexico is one stroke behind the 'Hounds. Host seed Washington holds the lead at 2-under after the first 18 holes. The top-seeded Huskies currently lead Colorado State and Oregon State by five strokes.

Jay Mulieri went 1-over on the day to card Loyola's low round and put the sophomore in a tie for 15th place. Mulieri will open the second round just four shots off the 3-under lead held by Denver's Espen Kofstad and Colorado State's Dustin Morris.

Patrick McCormick had a solid opening round as well. McCormick fired a 75 on the Olympic Course to end the day tied for 31st.

Junior Alex Redfearn opened his third NCAA Regional tournament by going 7-over (79) and tying for 57th, coming in just two strokes ahead of teammate Jason Burton. Burton, Loyola's only freshman in the field, carded a 9-over 81 (T71).

Ryan McCarthy had an uncharacteristically rough outing, finishing in 75th place after shooting a 14-over 86.

Play resumes on Gold Mountain's Olympic Course Friday at 8 a.m. PDT (11 a.m. EDT).
