Niagara University, N.Y. - The Loyola University Maryland women's volleyball team lost to Niagara, 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-17), Sunday in Niagara University, N. Y.
Freshman Nicole Sarby led the way for Loyola (5-12, 0-4 MAAC) with nine kills and a .304 hitting percentage. Sophomore Katie Dircks had six kills and four digs and senior Nina Camaioni had five kills and six digs.
Senior Brittany Born added 16 digs and sophomore Aubrey Kirven had 22 assists for the match. The Greyhounds had eight serving errors for the match.
Leading the Purple Eagles was Kathy Bibler who had nine kills and hit a .389 for the match. Michelle James recorded 27 assists.
The score was tied at ten in the first set before the Niagara went on a two point run. The Greyhounds came with in one by an attacking error. Then the Purple Eagles went on a couple of runs before the score was 15-12. The Greyhounds would only score five more points for the set before the Purple Eagles finished the set 25-17. Loyola had a .077 hitting percentage to Niagara .147.
In the second set, the score was tied a ten but Niagara took a lead. The Greyhounds came within three at 21-18 with a block from Annie Manes and Nicole Sarby. But that was as close they came. Loyola only scoring one more point before Niagara finished the set 25-19. The Greyhounds hit a .042 to Niagara .179.
In the third set the Greyhounds had an early four point lead at 9-5 before the Purple Eagles answered back and tied the score at ten. The score was tied at 12 before Niagara went on a run to take the lead and never looked back. Loyola was in it at 16-15 but the Purple Eagles went on a five point lead before Loyola answered. The Greyhounds only answered with two more points before Niagara finished the set 25-17. Loyola had a .067 hitting percentage to Niagara .162.
The Greyhounds will have their next three matches at home. First a non-conference match against Howard on Wednesday at 7 p.m. They Loyola will have a couple of conference matches against Siena on Saturday and Marist on Sunday. Both matches begin at 2 p.m.
