HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Loyola University Maryland swimming and diving programs headed south on Saturday as the men's side enjoyed an impressive 207-80 victory over local rival Towson while the women's team fell to James Madison, 254-45, and came up short against Towson, 251-48.

The Loyola women turned in some solid results on the day facing two strong teams. The Greyhounds' entry of Mary Henkels, Courtney Trivino, Caitlin Cassidy and Erin Shea placed fifth in the opening women's 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:53.12.

Trivino followed up with a time of 1:01.21 in the women's 100-yard backstroke to finish seventh, less than three seconds short of Merdith Budner's winning time of 58.23 seconds for Towson.

Henkels finished eighth in the women's 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:13.27.

The men's team posted a dominating day, dropping only one race as eight different Greyhounds took first place in individual swimming and diving events.

Brennan Morris replicated last week's feat of winning every event in which he entered, taking two individual events and helping the Greyhounds capture the men's 200-yard medley relay.

Morris combined with Matthew Fralinger, Ozzy Torres and Sam McQuaid to finish ahead of a Towson entry to take the relay with a time of 1:36.12.

The sophomore, who won last week's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week Award, also touched the wall first in the men's 100-yard backstroke with a 52.62-second finish.

Morris finished the day in impressive fashion, taking the men's 500-yard freestyle by over 18 seconds with a time 4:36.30.

Scott Heil took two events, beginning with the men's 1,000-yard freestyle. Heil narrowly beat teammate Patrick Mukri for first thanks to a time of 10.01.42 to Mukri's 10:02.58 result.

Heil collected his second win in the men's 200-yard individual medley. Heil outraced Wes Foltz of Towson to finish in 1:58.85. Teammate Ryan Shovlin finished third at 2:03.14.

Mukri posted two wins of his own on Saturday. The first came in a win over teammate Will Jackson as Mukri posted a time of 1:59.97 in the men's 200-yard backstroke to top the fellow Greyhound by nearly six seconds.

The junior then notched a narrow victory in the men's 100-yard butterfly over Heil. Mukri touched the wall just eight-tenths of a second before Heil, giving him the win.

Saturday's diving events featured only Loyola's Michael Brown and Vincent Falcone. Brown won both the three-meter and one-meter diving events, 249.05 to 140.40.

Ozzy Torres proved the final Greyhound to win two events. Torres bested teammate Ryan Shovlin in the men's 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:57.34 before earning a win in the men's 100-yard freestyle thanks to a time of 47.83 seconds. Fellow Greyhound Tony Florida took third in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 50.16 seconds.

In the men's 100-yard breaststroke, Matthew Fralinger handed Loyola another win by finishing ahead of Towson's Jake Huston by .19 seconds.

Jeffrey Rowe edged Greyhounds Julien Brice and Tony Florida in the men's 50-yard freestyle, taking the race with a time of 22.01 seconds. Brice posted a result of 22.65 seconds, while Florida took third with a time of 22.73 seconds.

Two Loyola freshmen took the top spots in the men's 200-yard breaststroke, as well. Jacob Norfolk outpaced Bryan Bedacht to earn the win. Norfolk finished in 2:16.35 to Bedacht's time of 2:18.95.

Loyola fittingly capped the day with another win. Sam McQuaid, Fralinger, Florida and Michael DiNapoli beat two other Greyhounds entries for the top spot with a time of 3:20.70, edging the quartet of Marc Fink, Michael Kelly, Rowe and Shovlin and their time of 3:22.10.

The Greyhounds return to the water for one final meet at La Salle on Saturday, January 29, before heading to the MAAC Championships in Buffalo, N.Y. beginning on February 17.
