BALTIMORE - Faye Lukas extended her career-long double-digit kills streak to five matches in a row on Saturday, registering a game-high 12, but the Greyhounds lost in three to visiting Fairfield, 25-18, 25-23, 25-20, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at Reitz Arena.
Lukas hit .409, logging her 12 kills with just three errors on 22 swings against the Stags (14-9 overall, 11-2 MAAC).
Loyola (6-20, 3-10) led late in the second set, rallying from six down earlier in the frame.
Fairfield led 13-7 before a Lukas kill gave Loyola the serve on a sideout point. Katie Dircks served three points, the first on a Lukas kill, a second on a Stags' attack error, and the third on a dump for a kill by Lauren Andersen, pulling the Greyhounds within two, 13-11.
The Stags extended their advantage back to four, 16-12, after a Loyola ball-handling error, but the Greyhounds forced an attack error to bring the serve back to their side.
Janet Pressler then served three-straight aces, and Jac Bullock gave Loyola a 17-16 advantage with a kill off the Fairfield block. Pressler recorded another ace after a Fairfield timeout, putting Loyola up, 18-16.
The Stags got a sideout point when Rachel Romansky had a kill on an overpass, but Bullock tallied another kill for the Greyhounds to make it a two-point Loyola lead again.
The teams traded sideouts until Fairfield scored two in a row to tie the set at 20-20.
Mindy Maloney had a kill for Loyola, one of her six, but Caitlin Stapleton notched one of her team-high nine for the Stags, tying the score at 21-21.
The teams again traded sideouts twice, Loyola scoring twice on Lukas kills, and the set was tied at 23-23.
Kendal Dirkin, however, got a kill for Fairfield on sideout, and the Stags ended the second set on a Loyola attack error.
Dircks led Loyola with 10 digs, while Pressler had seven.
The Greyhounds are back in action in Reitz Arena on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock when they continue MAAC action against Iona College.
