Greyhounds Finish Tied For Third at Cobra-PUMA Invite

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Loyola University Maryland golf team finished tied for third with host Xavier University at the Cobra-PUMA Invitational on Monday at the Miromar Lakes Golf Club. Senior Jay Mulieri led the Greyhounds with a third-place finish.

Behind an 8-under 208 performance from Mulieri, the Greyhounds combined for a 1-under 863 team score. Florida Gulf Coast won the team title with an 11-under 853, edging Eastern Kentucky out of top honors by one stroke. Loyola and Xavier tied for third at 863, while Ball State was fifth at 2-over 866.

Mulieri finished two shots shy of the co-medalists; Florida Gulf Coast's Brandon Pena and Eastern Kentucky's Billy Peel, Jr. Pena and Peel shared the top spot with a 10-under 206, while Mulieri carded a season-best 8-under 208 (66-71-71).

Freshman Jack Whelan finished tied for 10th for the Greyhounds with a 1-under 216. Whelan shot a 1-over 73 on the final round after posting scores of 74 and 68 in the first two rounds, respectively.

Senior Patrick McCormick carded a 4-over 76 on the final round to finish the tournament tied for 19th at 2-over 218, while freshman Bart George turned in a three-round score of 224 (73-77-74) to finish tied for 37th. Junior Jon Ross wrapped up the Greyhounds competing, finishing tied for 42nd with a 227 (74-75-78).

Loyola will close out its fall season on Friday-Sunday, Oct. 21-23, heading to Howie-in-the-Hills, Fla., for the Mission Inn Collegiate.
