Results

NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. - Four of six singles matches went to three sets, but it was Niagara University's two victories in the other two-set matches that proved to be the difference as the Purple Eagles defeated visiting Loyola University Maryland, 4-3, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's tennis action on Sunday morning.

Loyola (7-3 overall, 1-1 MAAC) won the doubles point by capturing victories in two of the three matches, but Niagara rallied early in singles play to pick up wins in No. 2 and No. 3 singles.

Brandon Gallegos defeated J. Pierce Norton, 6-3, 6-1, in No. 2 singles, and Joseph Zelic defeated Kevin Zingler, 6-4, 6-2, in the third flight.

Deron Lemieux-Sarrasin notched another win for Niagara, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3, over Loyola's Connor Lisco in No. 6 singles, giving the Purple Eagles a 3-1 advantage with three singles matches to remaining.

Dan D'Agostino won the first set, 6-3, over Niagara's Jason Tedesco-Blair in No. 5 singles, but Tedesco-Blair rallied to win the match, taking the last two sets, 7-5, 6-4. The win clinched the match for the Purple Eagles.

Loyola picked up victories in No. 4 singles as Bobby Gorczakowski defeated Mathieu Lacasse, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4, and No. 1 singles where Keyan Sanai topped Matt Kane, 7-6, 5-7, 6-2.

Norton and Zingler opened the match with a 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles over Kane and Lacasse, and Gorczakowski and Jamie Russo followed at No. 3 singles, defeating Gallegos and Matt Bojanowski, 8-5.

Lemieux-Sarrasin and Zelic then edged D'Agostino and Sanai, 8-4, in the second doubles match.
