Redfearn In Third After Day One At Navy Invitational

April 16, 2011

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Loyola University Maryland's Alex Redfearn overcame strong winds and rain throughout the day to shot a 3-over par 74 to tie for third place after the first of two rounds at the 2011 Navy Spring Invitational at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course.

As a team, Loyola is fifth out of 20 teams with a overall score of 311.

TCU and Columbia lead the team race at 302, while Lafayette is third at 307 and host Navy is fourth at 310. The Greyhounds are well in front of two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foes, Iona (322) and Siena (329) after the first day.

Redfearn's 74 was Loyola's best round of the day by three strokes and just one back of the co-leaders at the event.

Cameron Liebert, who is playing in his first tournament of the spring for Loyola, shot a 77 as an individual.

Patrick McCormick is one stroke back of Liebert, while Will Handley checked in with a 79. Brendan Lemp shot 80, and Jonathan Ross rounded out the Greyhounds entry with an 81.

The second round will tee off Sunday morning with weather conditions looking more favorable for scoring.
