Patriots Edge Women's Tennis In Wednesday Action

BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland's Tiffany Ash and Rachel Janasek won their singles matches, but George Mason took the other four and earned the doubles point. The Patriots finished the afternoon with a 5-2 victory over the Greyhounds on the Butler Courts.

Janasek and teammate Joy Johnson opened the match with an 8-2 triumph over Kiersetn Pappas and Lindsay Gray in No. 1 doubles, but George Mason won the other two pairs matches.

Yasmin Fotovat and Ashley Dulaney defeated Judy Lite and Scarlett Hoy, 8-4, in No. 2 doubles, and Sabrina Fedele and Tiffany Ash fell to Brooke Blackwell and Alison Wingo by the same margin in No. 3 doubles.

Janasek picked up a 6-1, 6-3, decision over Gray in No. 1 singles, and Ash beat Stephanie Longueira, 6-3, 6-0, in the No. 6 slot.

The Patriots, however, won the rest of the singles matches to secure the victory. Wingo topped Fedele, 6-0, 6-4, in the No. 2 position, and Dulaney bested Hoy, 1-6, 6-4, 6-2, in No. 3. Johnson was defeated, 6-1, 6-2, by Blackwell, and Lite lost, 7-5, 6-4, to Ekaterina Desiatnikova.

Loyola is back in action when the men's and women's tennis teams travel to Emmitsburg, Md., on Friday to take on Mount St. Mary's.
