Final Stats
RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan College built an early four-point lead in the deciding fifth set, and while visiting Loyola University Maryland cut the decficit to one, the Greyhounds could not pull even or ahead, and the Jaspers came away with a 26-28, 25-16, 20-25, 25-12, 15-11 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory on Saturday afternoon in Draddy Gymnasium.
Manhattan (7-5 overall, 2-0 MAAC) led 7-3 in the fifth set after Brittany DeGagne and Hollegn Hendersen teamed for a Jaspers' block.
The Greyhonds (4-11, 1-2) managed to sideout when LaKenn Havens had a service error for Manhattan, and Loyola scored two more points, one on a Malia McGuinness attack error, and the second on a Lauren Andersen kill, making it 7-6.
The teams traded the next two points, but then Manhattan reeled off four in a row to take a 12-7 lead.
Three Loyola hitters - Tina Catanach (12), Faye Lukas (11) and Jac Bullock (10) - registered double-digit kills, while Janet Pressler had a match-high 17 digs. Catanach added 12 digs, as well.
The Greyhounds had one of their best blocking days of the season, recording a season-best 12. Bullock led the way with seven total blocks, two solo, while Mindy Maloney added five.
McGuinness had a match-high 21 kills for the Jaspers, but she was tagged with 15 errors and needed 53 swings.
Loyola is back in action Sunday when it plays at Saint Peter's in Jersey City, N.J. The match is slated to start at 2 o'clock.
