BALTIMORE - Alyssa Sutherland recorded her second-consecutive double-digit score, as the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team handed crosstown-rival Towson its first loss of the year, a 52-44 decision, Sunday afternoon at Reitz Arena.

Classmate Katie Sheahin led the Greyhounds (2-3) with 14 points, and eight rebounds, helping the team to their first home win of the season.

Sutherland put the first points on the board for the Greyhounds, as minutes later junior Nneka Offodile would tie up the score 4-4.

At 12:40, Sutherland hit her second jumper of the night, sparking the momentum for the Greyhounds. Loyola capitalized on a 9-0 run with seven minutes left in the first half.

Nicole Krusen recorded her elevnth three-pointer of the season, as Sheahin grabbed a board with 5:24 left in the half and sent the Greyhound ball to Sutherland. The senior forward connected with Krusen from the left wing, elevating Loyola's lead 16-6.

Moments later, Sutherland would record the team's fourth fast break, posting two more points for the Greyhounds.

In the first half, the Greyhounds went 2-5 from behind the arc, as Candice Walker connected on a three-pointer from downtown, helping the Greyhounds to their largest lead of the evening.

In the first half, Loyola held the Tigers to only three baskets from the paint, the fewest recorded field goals Towson has seen all season. In the past three games, the Tigers averaged 30 points from the field.

After the break, freshman Diana Logan recorded the first points of the half, but Towson countered with a 18-9 run that left the Tigers down by one.

With less than ten minutes left in regulation, the Greyhounds connected on three consecutive three-pointers, sparked by Sheahin and followed by two repeat performances from Sutherland.

Loyola maintained the lead, as the game came to an end with four successful free throws from Krusen and Sheahin.

Loyola outshot the Tigers 39.6-28 percent, while going 70 percent from the line.

The Greyhounds will return to action Wednesday, as they travel to Howard for a 7 p.m. matchup.
