Panthers Hold Off Women's Basketball, 57-47

PITTSBURGH, Penn. - Despite a back-and-forth first half, the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team fell to the University of Pittsburgh, 57-47, in Petersen Events Center.

Loyola was down by as much as 15 in the second half, before a 5-1 run sparked by junior Nicole Krusen.

The guard scored all five of the Greyhounds points, starting with a three pointer from the left side, with 1:10 left in regulation

On the next play, Loyola would force a turnover, sending the ball back to the Greyhound offense. Krusen attempted a repeat performance from behind the arc, but could not find the net. Freshman Tiffany Padgett would grab the rebound, but was not able to connect for the point.

With less than a minute left to play, Pitt's Loliya Briggs received a technical foul, sending Krusen to the charity stripe. The Rockville, Md. native went 2-2 from the line, ending the game 57-47, in favor of the Panthers.

Loyola tied the game five times in the first half, taking the lead on five separate occasions.

In the first half, the Greyhounds outshot the Panthers from behind the arc, connecting on two shots to Pitt's zero. Senior Alyssa Sutherland and Kara Marshall contributed the Greyhound baskets.

Marshall gave the Greyhounds their largest lead of the game, connecting on one behind the arc, sending the score 15-13 in favor of the Greyhounds.

Three minutes later, Sutherland would regain the lead for Loyola on another 3-point basket.

With 13:48 left in the first half, Pitt's Ashlee Anderson would counter with a layup, but Loyola's Diana Logan put the Greyhounds up by one, 22-21, after a pair of baskets from the line.

Loyola fought hard in the paint, holding the Panthers to 11 of their 29 field goal attempts.

Anderson led the Panthers, and owned a game-high 17 points, but Loyola's Katie Sheahin was on her tail with 16.

The Panthers improve, 6-2, while the Greyhounds fall to 4-5.

The Greyhounds continue their three game road swing, travelling to Syracuse Saturday, Dec. 8 for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
