Ten Greyhounds Net Goals As Loyola Downs Delaware, 14-5

BALTIMORE - A season-high 10 Greyhounds scored Wednesday night to lead the No. 13 Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team to a convincing 14-5 victory over Delaware at the Ridley Athletic Complex.

Sophomore Marlee Paton led all players in scoring with a career-high five goals to go along with one assist. Junior Joanna Dalton and freshmen Annie Thomas, Sydney Thomas and Hannah Schmitt all recorded one goal and one assist for Loyola, while the Greyhounds' remaining goals were scored by sophomores Molly Dickerson and Ali Habicht, in addition to freshmen Molly Hulseman, Kara Burke and Julie Morse. Junior Kathleen Barranco rounded out the scoring with an assist.

The Blue Hens (2-4) were led by Chelsea Fay and Abbie Hartman with two goals each, while Shannon Burns had the fifth goal. All of Delaware's goals were unassisted.

The Greyhounds (4-2) gave up the first goal of the game for the fifth time this season, as Delaware scored at 26:44, but Loyola responded with a 10-goal run before the Blue Hens were able to score again, leading to a 10-2 halftime score.

Paton led the Greyhounds in the run, tallying four scores, while Burke capped off the streak with her first career goal at 4:16. Barranco assisted the shot for her first point of the season.

Delaware scored the final goal of the half at 1:34, before freshman goalkeeper Natalia Angelo entered the game for the Greyhounds. Angelo earned her first career save in the final minute of the half.

The second half featured a variety of Greyhounds, as everyone that was able to get into the game, did. Annie Thomas started the scoring, before Delaware notched back-to-back goals to bring the score to 11-4. Paton then fired her game-high fifth goal into the back of the net at 21:42, before the Blue Hens answered with their final goal of the game at 10:46.

Habicht and Dickerson then rounded out the scoring with their first goals of the season at 7:17 and 0:24, respectively. Dickerson's goal marked the first of her career.

Defensively, senior Kellye Gallagher caused a game-high five turnovers, while classmate Ana Heneberry caused four. Gallagher also tacked on five ground balls, while Heneberry, Hulseman, Schmitt and Angelo each had two.

Loyola led the draw for the first time this season, 11-10, and was led by Dalton and junior Ashley Moulton, who won three and two, respectively.

In goal, senior Kerry Stoothoff played the first 28:26, stopping five shots, while Angelo played the final 31:34 and turned back three shots.

Loyola will return to action on Saturday when it heads to Harrisonburg, Va., for a match-up against No. 20 James Madison. Opening draw is slated for 1 p.m.
