Delaware State Gets Past Women's Tennis Monday Afternoon

March 26, 2012

BALTIMORE - Rachel Janasek won in singles and doubles action on Monday afternoon, but her singles point was the lone one of the afternoon for Loyola University Maryland as Delaware State University defeated the Greyhounds, 6-1, in women's tennis action.

Janasek and Olivia Ott rallied from a 3-0 deficit to win the final eight points in their No. 1 doubles match, and the duo defeated Ksenia Kozlova and Maja Banas, 8-3.

The Hornets, however, won the doubles point, as Kristina Aleksic and Marina Sicic edged Judy Lite and Scarlett Hoy, 8-6, at No. 2, and Christina Andrade and Vanja Adonova beat Sabrina Fedele and Tiffany Ash, 8-4.

Janasek opened singled action with a straight-sets, 6-4, 6-4, win over Kozlova, to score Loyola's point in the match.

Lite won the first set at No. 4 singles, 3-6, over Adonova, but the Delaware State player rallied to take the final two sets, 6-3, 6-2. Hoy took the second set of her No. 2 singles match against Aleksic, 6-3, after falling in the first set by the same score, but the match was already clinched in the Hornets' favor at that point, and Aleksic won the tiebreaker set, 10-5.

Sicic defeated Ash, 6-1, 6-3, and Ott fell, 6-2, 6-2, to Banas. Andrade closed the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jackie Lionetta at No. 6 singles.
