Final Stats

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Loyola University Maryland men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 contest at Lehigh Saturday night at Ulrich Sports Complex.

Although the Greyhounds (5-6-2, 0-4-1 Patriot League) held the Mountain Hawks (2-9-1, 1-4-0) without a shot in the opening 20 minutes, Lehigh took advantage of a defensive miscue in the 20th minute, sending its first shot into the net after Loyola misplayed a clear attempt.

The Greyhounds had the better of the scoring opportunities throughout the game though, outshooting the Mountain Hawks, 18-8, and holding a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

In the fifth minute, junior Connor Thompson heel-kicked a ball back to junior Joseph Cahalan in the left corner who played it into the box to senior Diego McQuestion. The senior redirected it to Thompson at the top of the box, but his shot sailed just over the cross bar.

Thompson had another shot in the ninth minute, off a cross from sophomore Dominic Marshall, just miss the left post and skim the side netting.

Sophomore Larry Ndjock also had a near miss, sending a ball across the face of the goal and just wide of the post before the half was over.

The Greyhounds had another near miss in the opening minutes of the second half, as senior Stephen Dooley played a ball into a crowded box. Ndjock was able to get a head on it, but it hit the post on its way into the goal, giving the Mountain Hawks a chance to stop the ball from crossing the line.

Thompson followed up the attempt by spinning around a slew of defenders just inside the box, but his shot went right to the Mountain Hawks' goalkeeper, Jacob Gottwald.

In the 60th minute, Dooley sent a ball from the end line back to Marshall in the center of the box, but his quick shot went high of the goal.

Dooley again used fancy footwork in the corner to get Loyola a corner kick in the 68th minute, but senior Jamie Libby's header was blocked by a slew of players in front of the goal.

In the final 10 minutes, Ndjock had a 10-yard shot saved by Gottwald and then in the final five minutes, the Greyhounds had four corner opportunities come up just short of a goal.

Loyola will remain on the road for a game at Boston University next weekend. The Greyhounds and Terriers will meet on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m.
