Greyhounds Win Six Flights At Mount St. Mary's Invitational

EMMITSBURG, Md. - Five Loyola University Maryland tennis players won their respective singles flights on Sunday at the Mount St. Mary's Invitational, and a men's duo won their doubles bracket, capping a successful weekend of fall competition.

Connor Pietrak (Men's `A'), Greg Olesnycky (Men's `B'), Alex Castro (Men's `D'), Megan Hahn (Women's `A') and Ania Krawiec (Women's `B') all won their singles flights, while Pietrak and Castro paired to top teammates Matthew Bejian and Maxwell Shanbrom in the Men's `B' Doubles title match.

Pietrak downed the host school's Peter Salomon in straight-sets, 6-3, 6-3, and Olesnycky rallied from a 0-6 loss in the first set to win the second, 6-4, before beating Bucknell's Jon DeFrancesch, 10-5, in a super-tiebreaker to win the flight.

Castro then beat Bejian in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-1, to give the Greyhounds three of the four singles flight championships.

In women's action, Hahn lost the opening set to Bucknell's Maria Coiffi, 1-6, but she evened the match with a 6-2 win in the second set. Hahn then outlasted Coiffi, 11-9, in the super-tiebreaker, edging the Bucknell player for the flight title for the second weekend in a row.

Krawiec took her flight with a default win over teammate Haleigh Morgus.

One other Greyhounds' singles player advanced to the championship matches of her brackets before losing, as Alexandra Billups fell, 6-4, 6-2, to Bucknell's Jorie Fox. In doubles play, Hahn and Olivia Ott made it to the `A' Doubles final before falling, 8-3, to Coiffi and Elania Vidrascu of Bucknell.

Three Loyola players won their consolation finals, as well. Connor Lisco beat Coppin State's Reginald Robinson, 6-4, 6-0, in `B' singles, and Shambrom topped Coppin State's Tre'Vonne Peyton, 7-6, 6-1, in `D' singles. John Feruzzi bested teammate Connor Skelton, 6-1, 6-1, in the `E' singles.
