Box Score Oct. 6, 2014 Final Stats PHILADELPHIA - With only seconds remaining in the first half, the University of Pennsylvania scored the lone goal of the contest, defeating the Loyola University Maryland women's soccer team, 1-0, Monday night at Rhodes Field.
With seven seconds remaining in the first half, senior Colleen Folan punched out a corner kick by the Quakers, but a header rebound bounced off the post and Juliana Provini tapped the ball over the goal line for the lone goal of the night.
Penn (4-3-2, 0-2-0 IVY League) held an 15-2 advantage in shots and a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.
"We have to find a way to keep teams off the board late in halves and late in the game," Head Coach Naomi Meiburger said. "We played well in the second half. Brooke gave us a great lift in the midfield."
In the first half, Brooke Kerrigan found herself surrounded by a number of defenders and made a quick backwards pass to teammate Gabrielle Tana. From the far right corner of the box, Tana took a left-footed shot that was saved by the Quaker's goalkeeper, Kalijah Terilli.
In the second half, sophomore Nicole Wahlig headed a free kick just wide of the goal.
Folan made seven saves in goal for Loyola (4-8-1, 0-3-1 Patriot League).
"Looking ahead, we have a tough game coming up against Lehigh," Meiburger said. "We have to try and prepare now."
The Greyhounds return to Baltimore - and Patriot League play - on Saturday, Oct. 11, to host Lehigh University at 7 p.m.
