Women's Basketball Drops Road Matchup At UMBC

Box Score Nov. 16, 2014

Final Stats

CATONSVILLE, Md. - Despite only getting outscored 38-36 through the second half, the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team was unable to overcome a first-half deficit, falling to the Retrievers, 81-58, Sunday evening inside RAC Arena.

Junior Colleen Marshall led all Greyhounds with 18 points, including 13 in the second half.

In her second-straight appearance, sophomore Diana Logan made two shots from behind the arc, contributing 11 total points on Sunday.

Defensively, junior Jeneh Perry dominated the boards through the first half, grabbing 10 rebounds, but Loyola was unable to get much going offensively throughout the period, as a physical UMBC squad sent the Greyhounds to the line 15 times. Loyola took advantage of its opportunities at the charity stripe, converting 10-of-15 attempts, but the Greyhounds found themselves trailing 43-22 at the half.

Marshall and Logan found their rhythm through the second half, shooting over 50-percent from the field to lead the Greyhounds through a back-and-forth battle with the Retrievers. Marshall hit the first basket of the half and later converted a fast-break layup to force the Retrievers to call a timeout with 8:41 left to play.

UMBC came out of the break scoring four points, but Marshall went on a 5-0 personal run to move the score to 68-44. Loyola continued to keep the Retrievers' offense in check, while Logan capped off the game by scoring eight of the final 13 points.

Behind eight second-half points by Logan, Loyola's bench outscored UMBC's, 17-13.

Freshman Carly Monzo recorded her first collegiate points against the Retrievers, hitting a shot from downtown, and finished the game with seven points. Sophomore Lauren Daugherty also contributed seven points, while Perry added nine.

The Greyhounds return to action on Wednesday, traveling to Georgetown University for an 8 p.m., matchup.
