East Carolina Too Much For Women's Basketball

Box Score Dec. 9, 2014

Final Stats

BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team fell behind early and was unable to overcome the deficit, falling to East Carolina University, 82-33, Tuesday night at Reitz Arena.

The Greyhounds (1-7) put the first points on the board, as Jeneh Perry rattled in a pair of free throws, but the Pirates were quick to tie it up, as Jada Payne answered by knocking down a jumper at the other end. A layup by I'tiana Taylor gave ECU its first lead, but another pair of free throws, this time by Lisa Mirarchi, kept the game even.

An 8-0 run by the visitors put ECU up eight, but Lauren Daugherty converted a layup to reel the Pirates back in, 12-6. That would be as close as the Greyhounds would come in the first half though, as Loyola was unable to overcome the defensive presence of Ondrea Shaw, who finished the half with nine blocks.

Trailing 47-14 at the half, the Greyhounds came out of the break fighting, scoring 10 of the first 15 points of the second half.

Loyola's forwards scored eight of the team's 10 points during that time, including six by Perry.

The junior post scored a team-best 12 points for the game and grabbed five rebounds and one block. Daugherty pulled down a game-high seven rebounds, helping the Greyhounds to a total of 37 boards against East Carolina. The Pirates only grabbed three more rebounds, despite shooting more field goals.

With eight and a half minutes remaining in the second half, Loyola put together an 8-0 run sparked by Perry. Four of the eight points were recorded from the charity stripe, as Mirarchi and freshman Karley Kolberg connected on both of their free-throw attempts during that time.

Kolberg scored a career-high four points against the Pirates.

For the Pirates (8-2), Jada Payne had a game-high 24 points, while Shaw blocked 10 shots.

Loyola will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 20 when it hosts Saint Peter's at 5 p.m.
