Box Score Dec. 9, 2014

Final Stats

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's University closed the first half on a 21-6 run that helped the Hawks overcome an 11-point deficit, and the host team began the second 20 minutes on a 17-5 stretch. Saint Joseph's dealt the Greyhounds a 68-42 defeat Tuesday night at Hagan Arena.

A DeAndre' Bembry jumper 4:33 into the game made it 7-6 Loyola, but the Greyhounds scored 11 of the next 13 points and went up 18-7 on a driving layup by Denzel Brito at 8:32.

The Hawks, however, started their run with four-straight points by Shavar Newkirk. A steal and fast-break layup by Cam Gregory momentarily stretched the Loyola lead to seven, 20-13, with 4:41 left in the first half.

Saint Joseph's (5-4 overall) scored the next 10 points, taking its first lead of the game at 1:48 on a Bembry basket. Chris Wilson made it a 3-point lead with 1:36 on the clock, but an Andre Walker jumper and two Franz Rassman free throws made it a one-point game going into the final possession of the half.

Bembry got free in the corner and hit a 3-pointer at the first-half buzzer to make it 28-24 at halftime, a lead Saint Joseph's would extend to 53-29 in the first 10 mintues of the second half.

Bembry finished with a game-high 21 points, and Wilson added 13.

Gregory scored a career-high 14 points, three days after going for his previous best of 11. He also had a game-high eight rebounds. Andre Walker added 12 points in his first game as a starter for the Greyhounds.

Loyola will take a 12-day break for fall semester final exams before returning to game action on Sunday, Dec. 21, at Stony Brook University.
