WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Loyola University Maryland volleyball team dropped a three-set match at American Friday night.
Freshman Haley Puddy led Loyola (6-24, 1-14 Patriot League) and shared match-high honors in kills, landing eight, while Micah Duzey had a team-best eight digs.
For American (25-6, 16-0), Allison Cappellino had eight kills and Hoakalei Dawson led all players with nine digs.
With the first set tied at 16 all, the Eagles used a four-point run to pull ahead, 20-16. From there, the two squads traded points, leading American to a 25-21 win.
The Eagles took control of the second game early on, scoring 15 of the first 19 points to cruise to a 25-10 victory.
Loyola was unable to hold on to an early lead in the third set, as American's 6-1 run erased a three-point Greyhound advantage. The Eagles then strung together another four-straight points to pull ahead 15-10 and closed out the match with a 25-15 victory.
The Greyhounds will conclude the season Saturday at Reitz Arena. Loyola will host Navy at 2 p.m.
