NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Loyola University Maryland women's basketball opened the 2015-16 regular season with a win over Lipscomb University, 57-52, Friday night in Allen Arena.

Sophomore Bri Betz-White tied a career-high with 23 points, going 8-of-10 from the free-throw line down the stretch. Senior Colleen Marshall also scored double digits, recording 12 points, while senior Jeneh Perry led the team with eight rebounds.

Loyola (1-0) trailed Lipscomb (0-1) by six at the half, but returned to shoot 43.8 percent from the floor and outscore the Bisons, 40-29, through the final 20 minutes.

With 3:34 remaining in the third quarter, senior Diana Logan knocked down a jumper in the paint to give Loyola its first lead of the second half, 28-26. The Greyhounds closed out the third quarter with a trey by Marshall and a layup by Perry to remain within one of Lipscomb, 34-33.

After trading baskets for nearly half of the fourth quarter, Betz-White hit a 3-point field goal to put Loyola up for good, 47-44, with 4:29 left to play. Down the stretch, Betz-White converted six of her eight free-throw attempts to help the Greyhounds hold off Lipscomb.

Defensively, the Greyhounds finished the game with 46 rebounds, eight steals and two blocks. Loyola took better care of the ball and committed only 18 turnovers to Lipscomb's 22.

Ashley Southern recorded a double-double to lead Lipscomb with 15 points and 20 rebounds.

The Greyhounds return to action Monday when they travel to Villanova. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
