Golfers Wrap Up Fall Season At Kiawah Classic By Aramark

Nov. 3, 2015

Final Results

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The Loyola University Maryland golf team concluded the fall season with a ninth-place finish at the Kiawah Classic by Aramark after Tuesday's final round at Turtle Point Golf Club was cancelled. Most players finished 5-7 holes through today's third round, but standing water on the greens led to the cancellation.

"It's a bit unfortunate that we weren't able to finish play today, as we were looking forward to closing out the fall with a strong round and hopefully continuing to climb up the leaderboard," head coach Chris Baloga said. "We were off to a nice start as four of the five guys were at par or better through the holes that we competed.

"As it stands though, we recorded a win over a top-10 opponent, which is a huge accomplishment for the program." The Greyhounds combined for an aggregate score of 15-over 591 to finish the two-round tournament in ninth place and one stroke ahead of No. 9 Georgia Tech, marking Loyola's first-ever win over a top-10 ranked opponent.

Charleston Southern won the team title with a 10-under 566, while No. 22 Virginia earned runner-up honors with a 5-under 571. No. 6 Duke and No. 33 Augusta finished tied for third at 1-under 575, and College of Charleston rounded out the top-five with a 3-over 579.

Junior Connor Flach led the Greyhounds through the tournament after tying the low round score through yesterday's second round. He turned in a personal-best 6-under 66, including acing the 16th hole, to finish the two rounds tied for 23rd at 1-over 145.

"We've had a total team effort all fall," Baloga said. "Four different players have been the low man through our six events and it was great that Jeremy [Wall] got his first collegiate win at the Maryland Invitational. I expect that we'll end the fall with our best-ever ranking."

Through the first five events this fall, Loyola had a Greyhound among the top-10 finishers, including Jeremy Wall who won his first-ever collegiate event at Maryland's Terrapin Invitational.

Flach opened the season with a fourth-place finish at Duke's Rod Myers Invitational, followed by a pair of top-10 finishes by Ethan Wall. At Notre Dame's Fighting Irish Classic, Ethan Wall, who led the team with a 73.07 stroke average this fall, finished tied for seventh before he tied for 10th at the Primland Invitational.

Junior Will Wears notched his first career top-10 finish by tying for eighth at NC State's Wolfpack Fall Intercollegiate, followed by Jeremy Wall's win at Woodmont Country Club.

As a team, the Greyhounds placed in the top half of the standings at five of their six tournaments, including a runner-up finish at the Terrapin Invitational.

Following the semester and holiday break, Loyola will return to action when it travels to Goodyear, Arizona, to host the three-day Loyola Intercollegiate at the Palm Valley Golf Course. Play will begin on Sunday, Feb. 28 and conclude on Tuesday, March 1.
