Golfers Fifth After First Round Of Loyola Golf Invitational

GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The Loyola University Maryland golf team opened the spring portion of its season by shooting a 6-over 294 through the first round of the Loyola Golf Invitational sponsored by the Neville Kovacs Group on Sunday at the Palm Valley Golf Course to sit in fifth place heading into the second round.

A pair of Greyhounds, sophomore Connor Flach and freshman Jeremy Wall, shot 1-over 73 to lead Loyola and start the tournament in an 11-way tie for 21st.

Senior Bart George and Bennett Wisner are one stroke back at 2-over 74 and in a 10-way tie for 32nd, while sophomore Matt Oshrine is at 3-over 75 and in a tie for 42nd.

Sophomore Will Wears, competing as an individual, finished tied for 78th with a 7-over 79.

Utah Valley leads the team race with an 8-under 280, while Missouri is second at 3-under 285, DePaul is third with a 2-over 290 and Connecticut is fourth at 3-over 291.

Individually, Missouri's Luigi Botta and Utah Valley's J.T. Timmons lead the way with a pair of 5-under 67s. UMKC's Jack Hermeston rounds out the top three with a 4-under 68.

Loyola will return to the course Monday morning for an 11:10 a.m. ET tee time.
