Tough Finish For Golfers At Cleveland Golf Palmetto Invitational

AIKEN, S.C. - The Loyola University Maryland golf team had a tough third and final round of the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Invitational at the Palmetto Golf Club Tuesday, finishing tied with Western Carolina for 16th with a 36-over 876.

Sophomore Matt Oshrine finished tied for 31st with a three-round score of 4-over 214, while Jeremy Wall was tied for 55th at 9-over 219. Junior Jimmy Dengler improved two places today and into a tie for 62nd with a score of 10-over 220.

Sophomore Connor Flach had the best day for the Greyhounds, finishing with a 1-over 71 today for a two-day score of 13-over 223, and Brendan Peel took 90th with a 46-over 256.

No. 11 Will Starke of South Carolina claimed the individual title and led the Gamecocks to the team title, as well. Starke shot a 9-under 201, one stroke better than No. 50 Scott Wolfes of Georgia Southern and No. 84 Cody Proveaux of Clemson.

South Carolina, ranked eighth nationally, held a one-stroke advantage over No. 33 Clemson, the runners up. The Gamecocks finished at 15-under 825, while the Tigers shot 14-under 826 as a team. No. 28 Kennesaw State took third with a 9-under 831.

Loyola will return to the course on Sunday, March 22 for the three-day Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate in Kingsmill, Virginia.
