Loyola Student-Athletes Shine In Classroom In 2014-2015

June 9, 2015

BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland student-athletes had a terrific showing in the classroom during the 2014-2015 academic year, sporting a combined grade-point average of 3.279 with 230 Dean's List honorees during both semesters.

The Greyhounds' nearly 400 student-athletes posted a spring semester GPA of 3.308 with 22 earning 4.0s for the term.

"We are very proud of our student-athletes; they are competing in the classroom as well as in their arena of competition," said Colleen Campbell, Loyola's director of student-athlete support services. "It is very difficult to balance academics and athletics as a NCAA Division I student-athlete, and all of our teams have been extremely successful in doing just that. This highlights the Jesuit values of educating the whole person. It is a true team effort with great support from our faculty, staff, coaches and administrators."

Sixteen of the Greyhounds' teams finished the spring semester with a GPA of better than 3.0, both cumulatively and for the term. The women's tennis team leads the athletic department with a cumulative GPA of 3.563, while the men's soccer team is close behind at 3.451. The women's cross country squad had a spring-semester combined GPA of 3.554, topping the department.
