BALTIMORE - The No. 19 Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team fell to Towson, 9-5, in the home opener Sunday afternoon at Ridley Athletic Complex.

Senior Maddy Blakeman led Loyola (1-3 overall) with two goals, while sophomore Margaret Filippelli added one goal and one assist. Sophomores Frankie Kamely and Hannah Savage also had goals, and redshirt freshman Sabrina Tabasso dished out an assist.

For Towson (4-0), Kaitlyn Montalbano, Michelle Gildea and Michaela Duranti all had two goals.

Senior Molly Wolf, who finished with a game-high 10 saves for her third double-digit save performance this season and 18th of her career, kept Loyola in the game early. Wolf recorded four saves, including two while the Greyhounds played man down, before Towson was able to break through with a goal at the 15:45 mark.

The Tigers netted two more goals to pull ahead 3-0 by the 10:41 mark, but Loyola responded with three-unanswered scores in the final 5:34 to send the two teams into the locker room tied, 3-3. Blakeman first finished a pass from Whiteford, before Kamely finished a feed from Tabasso at 4:49. Filippelli's first career goal, off a free position shot, then knotted the score with 3:02 remaining in the half.

Towson regained the lead less than one minute into the second half, with a goal at 29:04, but Filippelli won the ensuing draw control and found Blakeman for a fast-break goal 11 seconds later to knot the score again, at 4-4.

Behind another three-goal Tiger run, Towson pulled ahead 7-4 with 16:29 to play and the Greyhounds were unable to recover. Savage halted the streak with a goal at 15:21, but Towson struck twice more before the end of regulation for the 9-5 victory.

Freshman Kristen Yanchoris led the defense with a game-high four ground balls and two caused turnovers, while senior Maddy Lesher scooped up three ground balls.

Tabasso won a game-high four draw controls.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday when they travel to No. 6 Penn State for a 1 p.m. contest.
