Final Stats

BALTIMORE - Goals from sophomores Brian Saramago, Josh Fawole and Barry Sharifi earned the Loyola University Maryland men's soccer team a 3-0 win over Holy Cross Saturday afternoon at Ridley Athletic Complex, keeping the Greyhounds ranked on top of the Patriot League.

Loyola (9-4-1 overall, 5-1-0 Patriot League) jumped out to an early lead when in the fourth minute, freshman Sam Brown fed the ball to Saramago who attempted a shot but was fouled by the goalie. Saramago converted the penalty kick, giving him his fourth goal of the year.

In the 53rd minute, Sam Carter sent a long ball into the box. Holy Cross was the first to touch it but Fawole settled it before spinning around and sending a left-footed shot into the bottom right corner of the goal, extending the Greyhounds lead to 2-0.

Loyola added one more to its lead in the 59th minute as Saramago one-touched a ball from Jake Campbell into the box for Sharifi to finish past goalkeeper Henry Stutz into the left corner of the net.

Holy Cross (4-8-1, 2-3-1) had its best chance to score in the 54th minute as Arno Rupp took a penalty kick for the Crusaders, however, Chase Vosvick's diving save preserved the Greyhounds' shutout.

Freshman Aldo Ruiz had a good look on goal in the 69th minute as he headed a cross from Xander Saling on the far side of the box; his header was saved by Stutz.

For the game, Loyola held an advantage in shots 12-7 (including 6-0 in the first half) and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Greyhounds will remain at home as they continue Patriot League play against American University on Wednesday. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
