BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland's Andre Walker scored 19 points, and Cam Gregory grabbed 16 rebounds, as the Greyhounds men's basketball team defeated Elizabethtown College, 83-57, in an exhibition game Thursday night in Reitz Arena.
Walker was joined in double-figured by three other players as Chuck Champion had 13, Andre Kostecka, 12, and James Fives, 10. Gergory led the way on the boards as the Greyhounds controlled a 49-31 advantage on the glass.
Elizabethtown tied the game at 16-16 on a Bryce Green layup with 12:11 to go in the first half, capping a 9-0 run, but Loyola scored seven-straight and did not allow the Blue Jays to take a lead. A free throw by Fives ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" one of his 10 in the game ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" pushed the Greyhounds up by 15, 36-21, with more than four minutes to play in the stanza.
The Blue Jays scored the second half's first five points, but Loyola reeled off eight in a row, capped by a Kostecka basked to push ahead by 18 less than four minutes into the period. Brent Holcombe converted a traditional 3-point play at 13:15, and the Greyhounds' lead was 20, 59-39.
Two other Greyhounds neared double-figures in points as Ian Langendoerfer tallied nine, and Gregory had seven. Champion had a game-high four steals, and Walker led all players with three assists.
Loyola opens its 2017-2018 regular-season on Friday, November 10, when it travels to the Windy City to face Northwestern University.
