BALTIMORE - Eighteen Loyola University Maryland student-athletes were honored on Saturday at the school's
Gratias Awards. The ceremony recognizes students who have excelled in service, academics, leadership, and embody
Cura Personalis, which is care for the whole person.
Mickey Watson (men's soccer) headlined the ceremony, being named the recipient of the Diane Geppi-Aikens Service to Loyola Award. The prestigious award recognizes and honors distinguished members of the senior class whose enthusiastic spirit and unwavering commitment have enhanced the quality of life for students, faculty and/or staff at Loyola. It is the highest honor bestowed upon student leaders at Loyola.
In addition, Watson and Lindsey Staszewski (swimming & diving) were honored as part of The Green & Grey Society, a prestigious group of 14 seniors who are chosen by their peers and administrators for their contributions to the University and their leadership abilities. The Society acts as a partnership between the student body and the President.
Staszewski, also a
Magis Scholar-Leader Award recipient, and Watson were joined by four other student-athletes who were recipients of two awards; Alexandria Agee, (women's tennis), Kyle Gower, (men's tennis), Jacob Denison, (men's soccer) and Anne Hayburn (women's swimming and diving).
Agee, Denison and Gower received the Magis Scholar-Leader Award and the
Cura Personalis Award, while Hayburn was a Magis Scholar-Leader Award winner and inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society, a national organization that honors students who demonstrate leadership achievement through campus life.
Molly Smith and Rachel Koller joined Agee, Denison and Gower in receiving the
Cura Personalis Award, which honors students who embody the Ignation ideal of care for the whole person through service, leadership and academic achievement.
Eight other student-athletes joined Agee, Gower and Hayburn in receiving the Magis Scholar-Leader Award: Rhys Schueren (women's rowing), Kristen Yanchoris (women's lacrosse), Zachary Metzler (men's swimming and diving), Madeleine Ocamb (women's track and field), John Railey (men's lacrosse), Kendall Kutner (women's tennis), Aidan Olmstead (men's lacrosse), Danielle Spano (women's track and field). The award recognizes students that have superior academic excellence while participating in co-curriculars.
