EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette College scored twice in the first 23 minutes of the second half Saturday, and after
Hannah Hoefs' goal for Loyola University Maryland, the Leopards added a 77
th-minute insurance goal for a 3-1 Patriot League victory in the teams' season-finale.
Sophie Saldivar broke a scoreless tie at 59:39 by knocking in a loose ball that had been crossed from the right by Katie Brannigan, giving the Leopards a 1-0 advantage less than 15 minutes into the second half.
Camryn Monfort then made it 2-0 just over seven minutes later, scoring off a free kick.
It only took 49 seconds, however, for Hoefs to bring the Greyhounds (6-10-1 overall, 2-6-1 Patriot League) a goal away from being level. She tallied her team-leading sixth of the season at 67:38, pulling Loyola within 2-1.
The Leopards (5-12-0, 2-7-0) came back to make it a two-goal margin a little more than nine minutes later as Ariana Aliprantis played the ball forward to Krista Kissell who scored at 76:42.
Loyola had three shot opportunities after Kissell's goal, but two from
Sarah Bayer and one by
Julianna Cabrera all went wide to keep the Lafayette lead intact.
The teams evenly split 14 shots, but Lafayette had a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Sumer Rahe made three saves for the Greyhounds.
