Brown's Goal Secures Men's Soccer 1-0 Win Over Lehigh On Senior Day

By Maggie Schlicht '20

BALTIMORE - Nico Brown scored the lone goal of the game to get the Loyola University Maryland men's soccer team a 1-0 win over Lehigh on the Greyhounds' Homecoming Weekend and Senior Day Saturday at Ridley Athletic Complex. With the win, Loyola moves to 6-1-1 in the Patriot League and clinches a top-two seed and a first-round bye in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament.

The Greyhounds, 11-3-1 this season, got off to a quick start when Brian Saramago sent a cross to Brown in the small box. Brown was able to fend off a defender to get it past the goalkeeper to convert for his fifth goal of the season in the eighth minute.

Loyola had another quality chance in the 11th minute when Saramago sent another cross into the box for Brown. Lehigh's goalkeeper was able to secure the loose ball before Brown could get to it though.

In the 45th minute, Josh Fawole had a breakaway, but his long shot sailed into the hands of Lehigh's goalkeeper Will Smith.

Lehigh (8-7-2 overall, 5-3-0 Patriot League) tried to mount its come back in the second half, but Chase Vosvick was able to come up with three saves to complete his sixth shutout of season and 12th of his Loyola career.

The Greyhounds close out the regular season with a trip to Lafayette next Saturday at 7 p.m.
