HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team fell to Colgate, 71-60, Saturday afternoon at Cotterell Court.
Freshman Isabella Therien led all players with 18 points in the contest, while sophomore Stephanie Karcz added 16 points, nine rebounds, eight steals and five assists. Classmate Alexis Gray chipped in 10 points for Loyola (7-19 overall, 5-10 Patriot League).
For Colgate (6-20, 2-13), Nia Ahart had 15 points and Mylah Chandler contributed 10.
The Greyhounds fell behind by 10, at 16-6 and 18-8, early on but ended the first quarter with a 10-2 run to pull within two, 20-18, by the first break.
Loyola continued its run into the second quarter and eventually pulled ahead, 23-22, on Kilcullen's 3-pointer at the 7:48 mark. A pair of free throws from Therien pushed Loyola ahead three, at 25-22, but the Raiders knocked down a trey to even the score at 25-25.
Therien gave Loyola another advantage, at 27-25 with 5:02 to play in the first half, but Colgate closed out the period with 12-straight points to take a 37-27 edge into halftime.
Gray started the third quarter with her 55th trey of the season, tying her with Siobhan Prior (2008-09 season) for the program's all-time single-season record, while Hunter and Therien sandwiched baskets around Colgate's layup to cut Loyola's deficit to five, at 39-34.
That would be as close as the Greyhounds would get though, as the Raiders answered with 10-straight points to pull ahead 49-34. Gray's free throw snapped Colgate's run and Therien's pair of layups brought Loyola's deficit to 13, 52-39, when the third-quarter time expired.
The Greyhounds continued to work at chipping away at Colgate's lead and would eventually pull within nine, 67-58, with 1:32 to play, but the Raiders stretched their lead back to double-digits and held on for the victory.
Loyola will remain on the road for its final regular-season road game, as it travels to Lehigh Wednesday night for a 6 p.m. matchup.
