Final Stats

BALTIMORE - The 16th-ranked Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team notched its third-straight upset victory Saturday afternoon, downing No. 14 Princeton, 13-7, at Ridley Athletic Complex.

Sparked by nine second-half saves by junior goalkeeper Kady Glynn, Loyola's defense allowed just two goals in the final 30 minutes of play to stretch a two-goal halftime advantage to a six-goal win. Glynn finished the game with 13 saves to mark her third double-digit save game this season.

Offensively, senior Frankie Kamely, junior Taylor VanThof and freshman Elli Kluegel contributed hat tricks for Loyola (3-2 overall), and Hannah Powers had a game-high four points on two goals and two assists. Freshmen Livy Rosenzweig and Sam Fiedler each contributed one goal, while Rosenzweig tacked on an assist.

Kathryn Hallett and Kyla Sears led Princeton (3-2) with two goals and one assist each.

Princeton opened the game going coast-to-coast for the contest's opening goal at 28:21, but Kluegel quickly answered with a free position score at 27:18. The Tigers then netted back-to-back goals by the 20:22 mark, but that would be the only time Loyola would find itself trailing as the Greyhounds went on a four-goal run to pull ahead 5-3 with 7:35 to play in the first half. Powers scored two goals in the run and Rosenzweig and VanThof each added one.

The Tigers halted the streak at 5:04 to pull within one, before Kluegel's underhand shovel shot off the rebound of Princeton's save regained a two-goal lead for the Greyhounds at the 3:37 mark. Powers then found VanThof for a score at 2:58, pushing Loyola ahead three, at 7-4. The Tigers' goal as time expired sent the Greyhounds into the break with a 7-5 advantage.

Loyola's defense shutout the Tigers through the first 14-plus minutes of the second half as the offense got a man-up goal from Kluegel, assisted by Powers, before back-to-back strikes from VanThof put the Greyhounds up 10-5 by the 15:44 mark. Princeton scored at 15:22, followed by two more Greyhound goals from Fiedler and Kamely, giving Loyola a 12-6 lead with 10:23 to play.

Princeton broke a 10-minute scoreless streak with a goal at the 2:03 mark and Kamely sealed the game with a goal at 1:36.

VanThof led all players with seven draw controls and Rosenzweig won six to help Loyola to a 15-6 advantage in the category. Junior Lindsey Ehrhardt added two draw controls and finished with four ground balls and one caused turnover, while senior Madison Fahey also had four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Loyola will remain home for its third game a four-game homestretch, as the Greyhounds host No. 6 Virginia Wednesday at 6 p.m.
