BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland men's and women's tennis teams swept all six doubles matches as the Greyhounds continued their fine play with wins over LaSalle University at the McClure Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. The undefeated women's team improved its record to 6-0 with a 5-2 win over the Explorers. The men's team also posted a 5-2 win for its sixth win in seven matches this year.
Freshman Kateri Martin led the women's team to its sixth-straight win as she won her doubles match and singles contest. In doubles, she teamed up with sophomore Alexandria Agee for a dominating 6-0 win over Ali Snyder and Tiffany Theophil of LaSalle. In singles action, Martin posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Theophil.
At number two doubles, freshman Abby Thornton and sophomore Lin Robertson combined for a 6-3 victory over Brittany Poje and Jade Smith of LaSalle. Thornton and Robertson also came back to win their singles matches. At number three singles, Thornton outlasted Poje, 6-1, 4-6, 6-0. At number four singles, Robertson swept Jade Smith, 6-1, 6-2.
Seniors Nicole Eberle and Julie Clark clinched the Greyhounds' doubles sweep with a 6-1 victory over Maansi Malhorra and Jayla Smith. Eberle also won her number five singles match with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Malhotra.
LaSalle picked up its two points when Snyder won her number two singles match with a 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (4) victory over Amanda Lanciano of Loyola. At number six singles, Jayla Smith posted a 6-4, 6-4 win over freshman Chloe Boustany of Loyola.
In the men's match, senior Blest Jones and sophomore Matt Fitzmaurice won both their doubles and singles matches to lead the Greyhounds.
At number one doubles, Jones and Fitzmaurice teamed up to beat Francesco Mowrey and Tomas Christian of LaSalle, 6-2. Jones won his number two singles match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory Connor Merrill of LaSalle. Fitzmaurice also captured his number five singles match when he came from behind, 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 to beat Patrick Pascual.
At number two doubles, Reid Burch and Tyler Blessing combined for a 6-1 win over Rogelio Gonzalez and Connor Merrill of LaSalle. Gonzalez came back to beat Burch at number three singles, 6-3, 6-4.
Junior Brian Hoffarth and sophomore Kyle Gower completed Loyola's doubles sweep with a 6-1 win over Colin Lucius and Pascual at number three doubles.
At number one singles, Hoffarth dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Francesco Mowrey.
Freshman Charlie Shanker completed the Greyhounds' victory with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Lucius.
Both the Loyola men's and women's teams return to action on Sunday, March 18 when they travel to Lehigh University for a pair of 12 noon matches.
