Loyola Men's Soccer
• Loyola is in its 76th season as a men's soccer program, its 40th year of competition as an NCAA Division I program and its sixth season as a member of the Patriot League.
• The 2013 season was Loyola's inaugural year as a member of the Patriot League. The Greyhounds posted a 2-6-1 record in League play in 2013, a 2-5-2 mark in 2014 and an 0-8-1 record in 2015, before finishing second in League play in 2016 with a 6-1-2 mark. Loyola won its first-ever Patriot League Regular Season title last year with a 7-2-0 record.
• Prior to joining the Patriot League, Loyola was a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference for 24 years. From 1989-2012, the Greyhounds posted an overall record of 167-24-8 in conference games and claimed 16 MAAC Regular Season and 12 MAAC Tournament titles.
Loyola Greyhounds (2-0-0, 0-0-0 Patriot League)
• The Greyhounds are 2-0 to start the season for the first time since the 2018 season.
• Loyola opened the season with a 3-0 win over Big Ten rival Rutgers to mark an 11-goal swing against the Scarlet Knights. The last time the Greyhounds faced Rutgers was in 2015, with the Scarlet Knights coming out on top, 8-0, in New Jersey.
• Junior Brian Saramago, a MAC Hermann Trophy Award Watch List honoree, leads the Greyhounds with eight poitns this year on three goals and two assists. He recorded his first multi-assist game in the season opener vs. Rutgers and then netted his second career hat trick vs. Mount St. Mary's.
• Sophomore centerback Jake Dengler was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week this week after scoring the eventual game-winning goal in the 67th minute against Rutgers, heading in a corner kick from senior Gabriel Carlsson, and helping the Greyhounds to a shutout win over the Scarlet Knights.
• Junior midfielders Barry Sharifi and Morgan Lussi also have goals this year, scoring vs. Rutgers.
• Sophomore Chase Vosvick earned two saves in both games this season, posting wins in both and recording his seventh career clean sheet against Rutgers in the season opener.
Villanova Wildcats (2-0-0, 0-0-0 BIG EAST)
• Villanova is coming off a 3-2 overtime win over William & Mary Monday night. Yusuf Cueceoglu scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 96th minute.
• Zach Zandi had a hand in all three goals, scoring once and adding two assists.
• Zandi leads the team with two goals, two assists and six points, while Cueceoglu has two goals and four points.
• In goal, Carson Williams has played all 186 minutes, posting a 0.97 goals-against average and a .750 save percentage. He's stopped six shots, posted one shutout and allowed two goals.
• The Wildcats opened the season with a 1-0 win at Delaware. Zandi scored the game-winning goal and was assisted by Richie Schlentz and Enda O'Neill.
Series History
• The Greyhounds are 3-1-0 all-time against Villanova and won the most recent meeting, 1-0, at home last year. Barry Sharifi headed in Gabriel Carlsson's corner kick in the 82nd minute.
• Prior to that, Loyola recorded a 3-1 win over the Wildcats in 2010 and a 5-0 win in 1983.
• Villanova's lone win came in the 2009 season opener, as the Wildcats escaped with a 1-0 victory.
• The Greyhounds are on a two-game win streak vs. the Wildcats.
