BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland and Utah State University played through heavy rain on Friday evening at Ridley Athletic Complex, but a lengthy lightning delay forced the cancellation of the non-conference match.
The Greyhounds were leading the contest, 1-0, with 24:09 left in regulation, but due to NCAA rules, the game will be considered a "no contest" and stats will not count. Teams must play at least 70 minutes for the game to be official; Loyola and Utah State played just 65:51.
Hannah Hoefs gave the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead in the 26
th minute when she one-timed a slick feed from
Sarah Ensor.
Ann-Kathrin Wolfram started the play with a long cross to Ensor at the bottom, right corner of the 18. Ensor centered the ball to an onrushing Hoefs who sharply drove the ball into the right side of the net.
The Greyhounds had two other excellent chances in the first half in which Aggies goalkeeper Grace McGuire had to make sprawling saves.
Loyola will be back in action Sunday, September 2, when it hosts UMBC at 7 p.m. at Ridley Athletic Complex.
