Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. - The Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team fell to Holy Cross, 78-60, Saturday afternoon at the Hart Center.
Sophomore
Isabella Therien led the Greyhounds with 16 points and nine rebounds, while junior
Alexis Gray added 15 points and redshirt senior
Bri Betz-White contributed 11.
Lauren Manis, the Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year, led all players with 20 points and 14 rebounds.
The Crusaders hit from long range to start things off, but sophomore
Delaney Connolly had an answer, knocking down her own triple on the Greyhounds' first possession. Therien answered Holy Cross' next basket, but the Crusaders connected on back-to-back 3-pointers after that to pull ahead 11-5.
Betz-White's free throws moved Loyola within seven, 16-9, but Holy Cross stretched its lead to 20-9. A layup from
Stephanie Karcz and a 3-pointer from Gray brought Loyola within six, at 20-14, but that would be as close as the Greyhounds would get, as the Crusaders strung together an 11-0 run to earn a 31-14 advantage by the 9:39 mark of the second quarter.
Loyola used a 12-4 run to get within single digits, 35-26, on Betz-White's and-1 conversion at the 4:06 mark. Holy Cross answered with a 10-2 run to close out the half with a 45-28 advantage, though.
The Crusaders continued their run out of the break, using a 17-4 to stretch their lead to 62-32 at the 2:56 mark of the third quarter. Loyola outscored Holy Cross, 24-11, in the fourth quarter, but the Greyhounds would be unable to get back within striking distance after that, as Holy Cross went on to win.
Loyola will remain on the road and head to American on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest.
