CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Sophomore Livy Rosenzweig and senior Kristen Yanchoris have been voted the Patriot League Preseason Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively, while the Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team has been voted the preseason favorites for the sixth time in as many years, as announced by the League office Thursday.
 
Senior goalkeeper Kady Glynn, senior attacker Hannah Powers and senior midfielder Taylor VanThof join Rosenzweig and Yanchoris on the Preseason All-Patriot League Team, giving Loyola a League-best five Greyhounds on the 16-member team.
 
Rosenzweig, the 2018 Patriot League Rookie of the Year, is coming off an outstanding freshman season, where she became the first player at Loyola – male or female – to record 100 points in a season. With 102 points, she not only set the school record for single-season points, but the program's Freshman Records for points, assists (47) and draw controls (89). She was one of just 12 players in the NCAA to reach 100 points last year; and was the lone rookie to do so. She was also one of just three freshmen to earn IWLCA All-America honors at the end of last year and was one of two sophomores to be voted to ILWomen's Preseason All-America first or second team this season, joining North Carolina's Jamie Ortega on the second team.
 
Yanchoris also earned Preseason All-America honors this year, being named to the second team as a defender. The 2018 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women's lacrosse, Yanchoris earned her first Media All-America honor last year, after captaining the defense through all 21 games. She finished fourth on the team with 25 ground balls and second with 19 caused turnovers, while she also helped the unit rank 16th nationally in scoring defense (9.76 goals allowed). In Patriot League only contests, Loyola was the only team to hold its opponents to eight goals-or-less, as the unit allowed just 6.22 per game.
 
Glynn, a two-time All-Patriot League goalkeeper, returns after earning first-team accolades a year ago. Glynn led the League in conference games in goals-against average (7.72) and save percentage (.517) last season, while her 10.85 GAA, 168 saves and .483 save percentage all ranked among the top-30 in the NCAA. In addition to starting all 21 games for the Greyhounds last year and posting six double-digit save games, including five against ranked opponents, she also became the 11th goalkeeper in program history to reach 300 career saves.
 
Powers returns after quarterbacking an offense that ranked fourth nationally in scoring offense a year ago (16.33 goals per game). A three-time All-Patriot League honoree, Powers earned Preseason All-America honorable mention honors this year after ranking second on the team with 71 points and third with 43 goals and 28 assists a year ago. The 2018 Patriot League Attacker of the Year also put together a 32-game point streak last year and contributed eight hat tricks, six multiple-assist games and 11 four-plus point performances.
 
VanThof also earned Preseason All-America accolades this year, being one of six midfielders across college lacrosse to pick up first or second-team honors. A second-team All-American last year, VanThof became the first player at Loyola – and the third in Patriot League history – to record 100 draw controls in multiple seasons. With 284 draws heading into her final season, she has already cracked into the top three of the League's career records and is on pace to break Loyola's career record. A top-25 Tewaaraton Award semifinalist a year ago, VanThof finished last season with 119 draw controls and was second on the team with 49 goals.
 
The Greyhounds will open their season at Johns Hopkins on Saturday, February 16. Opening draw is set for 11 a.m., with the game being the first of a Loyola-Hopkins lacrosse doubleheader at Homewood Field.
