BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland men's soccer is back at Ridley Athletic Complex on Tuesday, hosting NJIT in its second-to-last non-conference game of the regular season.

Last Time Out

  • Nick Jennings converted a penalty kick with 4:12 remaining in the opening half, and Lehigh withstood a barrage of Loyola shots to hold on for a 1-0 victory over the Greyhounds on Saturday.
  • Loyola saw its three-game winning streak come to an end despite a 25-10 advantage in shots, including a 17-5 margin in the second half.
  • Loyola's 25 shots were its most in a game since a 26-shot effort against Canisius on Oct. 9, 2005.
  • Brian Saramago and Josh Fawole led the Greyhounds with six shots apiece, while Barry Sharifi had five shots for the visitors.
  • Lehigh (8-3-1, 4-0-1) moved into a tie with Navy for first place in the Patriot League standings. Will Smith made seven saves in goal to secure the clean sheet.

Series History

  • This will be the first-ever meeting between Loyola and NJIT. 
  • The Greyhounds are 3-0-1 lifetime against the eight current members of the Atlantic Sun Conference.
  • Loyola drew 1-1 against Stetson in 2014, topped Liberty by a 2-0 final in the 2007 NCAA tournament and recorded a pair of wins against Jacksonville in 1988 and 1974.

About the Highlanders

  • NJIT (5-3-4, 2-1 A-Sun) is coming off back-to-back victories over North Florida (2-0) and VMI (5-0), and the Highlanders are 3-0-1 in their last four contests overall.
  • Redshirt junior forward Rene White leads the A-Sun and ranks fifth in Division I with 11 goals through the team's first 12 games. He has scored in seven games, tallying multiple goals in four of those contests.
  • NJIT averages 2.25 goals per game overall, a figure which ranks 15th nationally.
  • The Highlanders went 6-11 (1-5 A-Sun) last season. They were projected to finish seventh out of eight teams in this year's Atlantic Sun preseason poll.
Two More 2018 NCAA Tournament Teams Upcoming
  • Following Tuesday's matchup with NJIT, Loyola's next two contests will be against teams which qualified for the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
  • The Greyhounds are at defending Patriot League champions Colgate at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, and they travel to a Wake Forest squad which was ranked No. 6 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division I poll next Tuesday night.
  • Loyola had six 2018 NCAA tournament teams on its schedule this fall.
