Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Sousa’s OT Winner Leads Men’s Soccer to Road Victory at Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Josh Fawole set up a game-winning goal for Jonathan Sousa 2:11 into overtime, finishing off a 2-1 victory for Loyola University Maryland men's soccer at three-time defending Patriot League champions Colgate on Saturday.

Brian Saramago added his second goal in as many games for the Greyhounds (7-7, 4-2), who move into a tie for third with Lafayette in the conference standings.

It was a tale of two games statistically, as the Raiders (3-8-4, 1-4-1) enjoyed a 14-2 advantage in shots for the first 62 minutes of the contest. Both goals in regulation were scored during that opening stretch, as Barry Sharifi and Daniel Osuji set up Saramago's opener in the 33rd minute before Mason Miller answered for Colgate less than two minutes later.

Saramago's goal was his fifth of 2019, tying Sharifi for the team-lead, and his 31st overall at Loyola.

From the 63rd minute on, it was all Greyhounds, as the visitors managed 11 of the game's final 12 shot attempts. Loyola had several chances to secure the victory before overtime, as Saramago hit the post in the 83rd minute while Sam Brown and Osuji had quality efforts stopped by goalkeeper Jacob Harris.

Sousa's game-winner came after Fawole made a run down the right side. He sent a cross into the box which Sousa deflected past Harris from six yards out for his second strike of the season. Both of Sousa's goals have sealed conference victories, as he had the only tally in a 1-0 win at Bucknell on October 2.

Chase Vosvick made three saves to record his second-straight win in goal. The Greyhounds improved to 5-1 overall in October.

Loyola remains on the road for a challenging matchup on Tuesday, traveling to No. 4 Wake Forest for the final non-conference game of the regular season. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
