Road Trip Finale Tuesday Night In Nation's Capital

  • Loyola plays the final match of a two-game road trip on Tuesday, October 22, when it heads to Washington, D.C., for a 7 o'clock match at American University.
  • The Greyhounds then have a pair of games this weekend in Baltimore, starting with a Friday night contest at 7 o'clock against Patriot League-leading Colgate University. On Saturday afternoon, Loyola will host a game against College of the Holy Cross that will be played at Johns Hopkins University's Goldfarb Gymnasium.

Last Time Out

  • Army West Point hit .379 to Loyola's .125 on Saturday evening, defeating the visiting Greyhounds in three, 25-14, 25-16, 25-16.
  • The Black Knights had just eight errors in 87 swings while compiling 41 kills in the match. Emmy Barnhorst had 10 kills, while three other Army West Point players had seven or more kills.
  • Ann Ernst tallied 10 kills for the Greyhounds, and Katie Forsythe led Loyola with 13 digs.

One Of Five

  • Ann Ernst accomplished a milestone that only four other Loyola players have reached, becoming the fifth player in program history to reach 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career.
  • She logged her 1,000th dig in the October 11 match against Navy after crossing the 1,000-kill plateau last season. Through three-plus seasons and 106 career matches, Ernst has 1,393 kills and 1,023 digs.
  • Ernst joined a list that includes Nina Camaioni (2007-10; 1,772 kills and 1,697 digs), Becky Corb (2002-05; 1,629 and 1,038), Shauna Lagatol (1996-99; 1,320 and 1,091) and Carisa Kreichaug (1997-2000; 1,299 and 1,071).

Tag Team

  • Ann Ernst and Abby Hamilton have been the most prolific hitting tandem in the Patriot League this season, ranking first and second, respectively, in total kills. Ernst has posted 299 kills, while Hamilton has 291 in one additional set thus far for the Greyhounds.
  • On a per-set basis, Ernst is second in the conference with 3.78 kills, while Hamilton checks in third at 3.64. In Patriot League matches, they rank one-two with Ernst averaging 4.25 and Hamilton 4.09.
  • Ernst and Hamilton both rank in the top-25 in NCAA Division I in total kills; Ernst is 24th (299), and Hamilton is 25th (291)

Fastest To 1,000

  • Sophomore libero Katie Forsythe became the fastest player to 1,000 digs in Loyola and Patriot League history on Sunday when she picked up her 15th of the match against NJIT on September 22.
  • The Ohio native crossed the milestone in the second set of her 44th career match. Last year, she set the Patriot League and Loyola single-season records with 697 digs; she has 457 in 21 contests this year, and her 1,154 career digs rank seventh in Loyola's all-time history.
  • In November 2018, Forsythe set a pair of single-season digs records, rewriting history at both the school and conference levels. In Loyola's win at College of the Holy Cross, her 14th and final dig gave her 613 to break the Patriot League record set by Bucknell's Kristen Sydlowski in 2006. The next night, in a five-set win at the U.S. Military Academy, Forsythe totaled 23 digs, passing Brittany Born's school record of 626 digs in 2007 in the process.

National Numbers

  • Katie Forsythe is third in all of NCAA Division I in total digs (157) this season, and she is ranked sixth in digs per set (5.71). Ashley Dwyer, despite playing as a 6-2 setter for the year's first several matches, is 15th in the NCAA in total assists (766).
  • As a team, Loyola ranks eighth in total assists (1,012), ninth in digs (1,361) and 10th in kills (1,065).

Upping Her Output

  • Abby Hamilton started all 30 matches as a freshman and was second on the team with 354 kills, an average of 2.97 per set. This year, through 16 contests the Wisconsin native has increased her per-set mark significantly, checking in at 3.64 with 291 total kills. Hamilton has done this while raising her hitting percentage from .172 last year to .208 this season.
  • Hamilton picked up All-Tournament honors at the Greyhounds' last three tournaments, the Rambler Challenge, Charm City Challenge and the Tiger Invitational. She was named Patriot League Player of the Week for the first time in her career on September 18 after earning Charm City Challenge Most Valuable Player honors.
  • Over the last 14 contests, Hamilton has averaged 4.30 kills per set with 215 total to lead the Greyhounds in those categories.

Career-High To Start

  • Ann Ernst came out of the gates with a strong performance for the Greyhounds against Furman in the first match of 2019. She posted a career-best 26 kills against the Paladins to top her previous best of 24 she put away against Akron her freshman year.
  • Ernst led the Patriot League in kills per set last season (3.58), and her .192 hitting percentage was more than 40 points higher than her .148 career mark.
  • Over the course of her three-plus seasons – Ernst has played in 107 career matches – she has recorded 10 or more kills 80 times (74.8 percent of the time), 15 or more kills 43 times (40.2) and 20 or more 12 times (11.2).
  • Her 1,403 career kills rank fourth all-time at Loyola, and on October 11 she became the fifth player in school history with 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career.
