BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland women's basketball returns to the road for the first of five-straight contests away from Reitz Arena on Sunday, as the Greyhounds travel to New York City to take on St. Francis Brooklyn at 1 p.m.

Last year's meeting between the two teams was the longest game in Loyola's program history, with the Greyhounds ultimately falling 75-70 in triple overtime on Dec. 17, 2018.


Last Time Out

  • Sr. G Stephanie Karcz recorded her 20th career double-double, and Jr. F Delaney Connolly matched a season-high with 15 points, but it was not enough for the Greyhounds in a 75-69 home defeat to Howard on Wednesday.
  • Loyola used a 7-0 run to level the score at 69-69 with 51 seconds remaining. The Bison (3-2) responded with a 6-0 run of their own to close out the contest.
  • Karcz finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds, and she had six of Loyola's season-high 15 steals. The Greyhounds fell despite forcing 28 Howard turnovers.
  • Loyola shot a season-best 80.0 percent (16-20) from the free throw line. Karcz led the way at the charity stripe, hitting 8 of 11 attempts.

Series History

  • Both teams have totaled seven victories during a series which dates back to 1986.
  • The teams have faced off in each of the previous four seasons, with St. Francis Brooklyn winning three of the past four matchups.
  • The Terriers used a last-second layup to force OT at Reitz Arena before ultimately prevailing in the third extra session last December. SFC's Jade Johnson led all scorers with 16 points.
  • Loyola's last win was a 69-60 home triumph on Nov. 19, 2016. The Greyhounds are looking for their first victory in Brooklyn since 1991.

Scouting St. Francis Brooklyn

  • The Terriers (1-3) earned their first victory of the season on Wednesday, topping Army West Point by a 70-64 final. Fr. G Nevena Dimitrijevic led the way with 21 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
  • Included among SFC's first three losses were setbacks to Marquette (92-71) and Boston College (106-69).
  • The Terriers were projected to finish fifth out of nine teams in this year's Northeast Conference preseason poll after ranking third in last season's standings (18-13, 12-6 NEC).
  • Jade Johnson, who leads the team in scoring at 18.0 ppg, was a preseason All-NEC selection.

Karcz Leading Division I in Steals/Game

  • Sr. G Stephanie Karcz, who has ranked in the top five nationally in steals per game in each of the past two seasons, currently tops Division I at 4.8 steals per contest through Loyola's first four games in 2019-20. Karcz has 19 thefts on the year, including six apiece in the Greyhounds' last two games.
  • As a team, Loyola are second in the Patriot League at 11.3 steals per game this season. The Greyhounds had 15 thefts against Howard and 12 apiece in matchups with Notre Dame and Fairleigh Dickinson.

Strong Start for Connolly

  • With her 15 points on Wednesday, Jr. F Delaney Connolly is averaging a team-high 10.5 points per game through the first four contests. She hit 6 of 13 attempts from the field overall.
  • Connolly also scored 15 points (5-11 FG, 3-7 3FG) in a road defeat at Northwestern on Nov. 10. She has reached double figures on 19 occasions during her first two-plus seasons at Loyola.
  • Connolly filled up the stat sheet against Howard, adding seven rebounds, three steals and three assists in 37 minutes of game action.

  • Stephanie Karcz has received seven Patriot League postseason awards in her first three collegiate seasons. The 2017-18 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, she is a three-time All-Defensive Team selection, a two-time All-Patriot League performer (first team in 2017-18), and she was also an All-Rookie Team honoree as a freshman.
  • Karcz currently has 957 points and 836 rebounds, giving her a chance to become the fourth player in team history to reach 1,000 in both categories.
  • Karcz has ranked fourth in DI in steals per game in each of the last two seasons (4.24 spg in 2018-19). Her 330 career steals are 2nd all-time at Loyola, 17 back of the team record.
  • Karcz set a new single-game team and Patriot League record with 22 rebounds in last year's playoff game against Navy. She also holds Loyola's single-season rebounding record, grabbing 317 boards as a sophomore in 2017-18.
  • Karcz has 299 career assists (9th all-time at Loyola), 20 career double-doubles and two triple doubles.

Gray Approaching 3-Point Milestone

  • Sr. G Alexis Gray is currently fourth in team history with 126 career 3-pointers entering the weekend. She is 31 back of program-record holder Nicole Krusen (2011-14) and 18 behind Katie Sheahin (2009-13) in third place.
  • Gray set a single-season team record with 64 made 3-pointers as a sophomore in 2017-18.
  • She ranked second in the Patriot League in 3's per game that season (2.2), and she was third in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage (35.2, 64-182).

Looking Ahead

  • Loyola heads to Florida Atlantic for a Thanksgiving week tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Greyhounds face host FAU at 2 p.m. on Friday, and they will take on either  Kansas or Wright State the following afternoon.
