BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland travels to Boca Raton, Fla., for a Thanksgiving week tournament at Florida Atlantic, beginning with a 2 p.m. contest against the host Owls on Friday.

The winner will face either Kansas or Wright State at 1 p.m. on Saturday, while the loser plays in the consolation game at 11 a.m. that morning.

Last Time Out

  • Sr. G Stephanie Karcz totaled 24 points, three shy of her career-high, and Fr. G Ava Therien added a season-high 12 points off the bench in an 89-78 defeat for the Greyhounds at St. Francis Brooklyn on Sunday.
  • Karcz chipped in 11 rebounds, six assists and six steals in another strong all-around effort. The double-double was her second-straight and her 21st overall at Loyola, and she managed six thefts for a third game in a row.
  • Jr. F Delaney Connolly supplied 11 points (3-4 3FG) and six rebounds, and Sr. G Alexis Gray totaled nine points and a career-high seven assists.
  • St. Francis Brooklyn's Jade Johnson led all scorers with 25 points in the victory. Ally Lassen (23) and Nevena Dimitrijevic (22) also surpassed the 20-point marker for SFC.

Karcz Approaching Several Milestones

  • With her 24 points on Sunday, Stephanie Karcz is now only 19 points away from becoming the 22nd player in Loyola history to reach 1,000 for her career.
  • Karcz is also just 11 steals away from matching the program record of 347 thefts which is currently held by Katie Sheahin (2009-13). Karcz currently leads Division I with 5.0 steals per game this season (25 total).
  • The second of Karcz's six assists on Sunday was the 300th of her collegiate career, as she became the ninth Greyhound all-time to reach that total.
  • Karcz also ranks No. 5 all-time with 847 career rebounds, as she looks to become the fourth Loyola player in team history to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. She is 53 boards away from surpassing Mary Anne Kirsch (1995-99) for fourth place.
  • The only other Loyola players with 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds are Hall of Famers Patty Stoffey (1991-95, 2,467 points, 1,025 rebounds), Mary Beth Akre (1976-80, 1,113 points, 1,203 rebounds) and Mary Rieman (1975-79, 1,022 points, 1,027 rebounds).

Series History

  • Loyola has never faced any of the other three teams competing in this week's tournament.
  • The Greyhounds' last game against a current member of Conference USA was a 64-41 defeat to Old Dominion on Dec. 2, 2015. Their last victory was a 67-65 win over ODU in the first round of the WNIT on March 16, 2011.

Scouting Florida Atlantic

  • The Owls (4-2) have won four of their first six games after finishing last season with a record of 5-25 (2-14 C-USA).]
  • FAU secured a third-straight win with an 80-79 triumph at Western Michigan on Sunday. Crystal Primm sank the go-ahead free throws with 13 seconds remaining in regulation.
  • Primm (16.7 ppg, 8.5 rpg) leads the team in both scoring and rebounds.
  • The Owls were picked to finish 10th out of 14 schools in this year's Conference USA preseason poll. Their other victories this season have come against Hampton (64-63), Siena (83-39) and Little Rock (79-72).

Sharing the Ball

  • Loyola currently ranks second among Patriot League schools with 16.2 assists per game this season.
  • The Greyhounds have totaled 39 assists in their past two contests, with 21 against Howard last Wednesday and 18 at St. Francis Brooklyn over the weekend. The 21 assists vs. Howard was their most in a game since Jan. 28, 2017 against Lafayette.
  • Sr. G Alexis Gray ranks fourth in the Patriot League in assists per game (4.0) while Sr. G Stephanie Karcz (3.6) is ninth in the conference.
Strong Start for Connolly
  • With her 11 points on Sunday, Jr. F Delaney Connolly reached double figures for a third time in Loyola's first five games on the year.
  • Connolly scored 15 points (5-11 FG, 3-7 3FG) in a road defeat at Northwestern on Nov. 10 and she added 15 more points in Loyola's home opener against Howard on Nov. 20. She has scored 10+ points on 20 occasions during her first two-plus seasons at Loyola.
  • Connolly is currently third among Patriot League shooters in 3-point field goal percentage. She has hit 10 of her first 25 attempts from beyond the arc (40.0%).

Looking Ahead

  • After concluding the tournament on Saturday, Loyola remains on the road next weekend, traveling to Mount St. Mary's next Friday and No. 9 Maryland on Sunday, Dec. 8.
