BALTIMORE – Loyola concludes a season-opening weekend in the Midwest with a Sunday afternoon contest at Big Ten member Northwestern. 

This continues a stretch of eight games out of nine away from Reitz Arena to begin the year for the Greyhounds.

Last Time Out

  • Gr. F Ashley Hunter poured in a career-high 16 points, hitting 7 of 10 shots from the field in 12 minutes of game action, as Loyola opened its season with an 84-60 defeat at No. 16 Notre Dame on Friday. Hunter's previous scoring high was a 12-point effort at Navy on Dec. 29, 2017.
  • The Greyhounds trailed just 21-16 to the 2018 DI national champions midway through the second quarter, and they outscored the Fighting Irish by a 21-20 margin in the third.
  • Sr. G Alexis Gray added 10 points (4-9 FG, 2-4 3FG) for Loyola, while Fr. G Mackenzie Wagner had nine points and two steals in her collegiate debut.

Scouting Northwestern

  • The Wildcats went 21-15 (9-9 Big Ten) a year ago, falling 56-42 to Arizona in the WNIT championship game.
  • Jr. G Lindsey Pulliam was a first team All-Big Ten selection last season after ranking fifth in the conference with 16.5 points per game. She is one of four returning starters for Northwestern, joining Sr. F Abi Scheid (9.8 ppg, 4.8 rpg), Jr. G Jordan Hamilton (8.4 ppg, 3.1 apg) and So. G Veronica Burton (8.6 ppg, 3.6 apg).
  • Joe McKeown enters his 12th season as head coach for the Wildcats. He has 691 career victories in 34 years coaching overall.

Gray Approaching 3-Point Milestone

  • Sr. G Alexis Gray is now fourth in team history with 123 career 3-pointers made after making a pair of 3's in Loyola's season opener at Notre Dame. She is 34 back of program-record holder Nicole Krusen (2011-14).
  • Gray set a single-season team record with 64 made 3-pointers as a sophomore in 2017-18.
  • She ranked second in the Patriot League in 3's per game that season (2.2), and she was third in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage (35.2, 64-182).
  • Gray has totaled 10+ points on 29 occasions through her first three collegiate seasons..

  • Stephanie Karcz has received seven Patriot League postseason awards in her first three collegiate seasons. The 2017-18 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, she is a three-time All-Defensive Team selection, a two-time All-Patriot League performer (first team in 2017-18), and she was also an All-Rookie Team honoree as a freshman.
  • Karcz currently has 925 points and 807 rebounds, giving her a chance to become the fourth player in team history to reach 1,000 in both categories.
  • Karcz has ranked fourth in DI in steals per game in each of the last two seasons (4.24 spg in 2018-19). Her 314 career steals are 2nd all-time at Loyola, 33 back of the team record.
  • Karcz set a new single-game team and Patriot League record with 22 rebounds in last year's playoff game against Navy. She also holds Loyola's single-season rebounding record, grabbing 317 boards as a sophomore in 2017-18.
  • Karcz has 289 career assists (9th all-time at Loyola), 19 career double-doubles and two triple doubles.

  • Loyola remains on the road for its next matchup, traveling to Fairleigh Dickinson for a 7 p.m. tilt on Wednesday night.
  • The Greyhounds welcome Howard to Reitz Arena for their 2019-20 home opener at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20.
