Fiedler, Wilson Lead No. 11 Women's Lacrosse To Win Over Lehigh

BALTIMORE - Behind a personal-best five goals from sophomore Sam Fiedler and four from freshman Jillian Wilson, the 11th-ranked Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team earned a 13-6 win over Lehigh Saturday afternoon at Ridley Athletic Complex.
 
Sophomore Livy Rosenzweig also finished with four points, scoring twice and adding two assists, while classmate Emily Beier dished out a personal-best and game-high three assists. A goal each from senior Hannah Powers and sophomore Elli Kluegel rounded out the scoring for the Greyhounds (6-3 overall, 2-0 Patriot League).
 
Autumn Ryan led Lehigh (4-5, 0-2) with three goals and Sondra Dickey added two.
 
Loyola rolled to a 6-1 lead by the 16:55 mark as the defense limited the Mountain Hawks to just two shots in the time, while Fiedler and Rosenzweig scored twice for the Greyhounds and Kluegel and Powers added goals.
 
The Mountain Hawks broke Loyola's four-goal run at 7:17, but Wilson got in on the scoring at 6:43 to give the Greyhounds a 7-2 advantage
 
Lehigh scored again at 2:52, but Beier found Wilson at 2:34 for a quick answer, which sent the Greyhounds into the locker room up, 9-4.
 
The two squads traded goals to start the second half, with Fiedler sandwiching a pair of goals – the first assisted by Beier and the second by Rosenzweig – around two from Lehigh. A pair of goals from Wilson, at 13:30 and 6:08, gave the freshman her first collegiate four-goal game and the Greyhounds a 13-6 victory.
 
Freshman Katie Detwiler led the defense with four caused turnovers and she added three ground balls. Fiedler led all players with five ground balls.
 
On the draw, the Greyhounds held a 17-4 advantage with senior Taylor VanThof winning eight and Rosenzweig grabbing seven.
 
Loyola will take a quick trip to Washington, D.C. next week, before returning home to host Boston University on Sunday at 1 p.m. The game at American is scheduled for Wednesday at 4 p.m.
