TOWSON, Md. –
Livy Rosenzweig scored four goals and had three assists on the offensive end, while
Kady Glynn backstopped the defense with a season-high 15 saves as 10
th-ranked Loyola University Maryland defeated No. 25 Towson University, 12-6, at Unitas Stadium.
Glynn set the tone early for the Greyhounds (3-2 overall), saving a Towson (0-5) free-position shot on the Tigers' first possession. Overall, she held Towson to 1 of 7 on free-positions while making eight saves in the first half, seven in the second.
After Glynn's second save, the Greyhounds transitioned to the offensive end and
Taylor VanThof threw down to Rosenzweig curling around the crease to get topside for Loyola's first goal, just over five minutes into the game.
It took just over a minute for Loyola to strike again, this time with Rosenzweig cutting in similar fashion and catching a
Hannah Powers pass to score.
Powers would finish with two goals and two assists.
Emily Cooper, who had two goals and an assist, made it 3-0 Greyhounds at 22:19 when she dodged her defender and got to the doorstep to score her first. Towson came back more than two minutes later to get on the board with a Kaitlin Thornton unassisted goal, but Cooper registered her second of the early-going from a Powers feed at 19:58, and the Greyhounds led 4-1.
Jillian Wilson scored a free-position goal for Loyola at 15:24 before Carly Tellenkamp added one for the Tigers less than four minutes later, but two in a row by the Greyhounds from
Sam Fiedler and Powers stretched the advantage to 7-2 when Powers scored at 8:58.
Towson got a goal with under 20 seconds to go in the half as Thornton scored her second, and the Tigers tallied the second half's first two to draw within a pair, 7-5, as Rayna Deltuva scored at 24:35.
After Glynn earned possession for Loyola with a ground ball, Wilson drew a foul and had a free-position with under 23 minutes left in regulation. She stepped in and passed up the shot, instead throwing to Rosenzweig crashing from the left who scored on the crease to make it a three-goal game again.
Rosenzweig was on the assist-end of the Greyhounds' ninth goal, as she threw up top to VanThof who scored at 17:35. Cooper then assisted on an
Elli Kluegel goal at 11:39, and the lead was five, 10-5.
Towson got one back less than a minute later on an Annie Sachs goal, but Rosenzweig and Powers tallied the last two goals of the game for the final margin.
Glynn's 15 saves are tied for second-most in her career, matching the 15 she had against Penn State University last year and three shy of her career-high from a regular-season win against the U.S. Naval Academy.
After playing five ranked teams in the span of 19 days to start the season, Loyola now has a one-week breather before its next game. The Greyhounds play at No. 6 University of Virginia on Wednesday, March 13, at 7 p.m.
