Slow Start Plagues No. 10 Women's Lacrosse In Loss At No. 15 Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. - The 10th-ranked Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team closed out the game on a 6-2 run, but a slow start plagued the Greyhounds as No. 15 Princeton went on to win 14-10 in both teams' non-conference finale at the Class of 1952 Stadium Wednesday night.

Sophomore Elli Kluegel led the Greyhounds (9-4 overall) with four goals, while classmates Livy Rosenzweig (2 goals, 2 assists) and Sam Fiedler (1g, 2a) finished with four and three points, respectively. Senior Taylor VanThof scored twice, freshman Jillian Wilson added one goal and senior Hannah Powers finished with two assists.

Elizabeth George led all players with five goals and six points for Princeton (8-3) and Kathryn Hallett added four goals.

Princeton scattered six goals throughout the course of the first 11:36 before Rosenzweig found Wilson for the Greyhounds' first score at 16:43. The Tigers answered with a pair of goals before Loyola was able to strike again, with Rosenzweig's goal at 13:43 moving the score to 8-2.

Another pair of Tiger goals gave Princeton a 10-2 advantage, before Rosenzweig's assist to Kluegel with 13.6 seconds to go before half sent the Tigers into the break with a seven-goal lead, 10-3.

Kluegel struck again to start the second-half scoring, but back-to-back Princeton goals gave it an eight-goal advantage, 12-4, with 20:05 to play.

Loyola got its first pair of consecutive goals at 17:29 and 11:31, as Fiedler circled the crease and scored before giving up a free position shot to assist VanThof, bringing Loyola within six, 12-6.

The Tigers slowed the Greyhounds momentarily, scoring at 9:51, but Loyola netted four-straight goals to pull within three, 13-10, with 2:32 to play. Princeton put an end to Loyola's come-back attempts with a goal at the 1-minute mark.

Defensively, senior Lindsey Ehrhardt led all players with three caused turnovers.

The Greyhounds will round out their regular season with four-straight Patriot League contests. Loyola will first head to Lafayette on Saturday for a noon draw.
